Alas, it is the day after the most romantic day of the year, and I suppose you could say I’m not so keen as to move on from it just yet. Desperate for any writing ideas, I’ve decided to compile a list (in no particular order) of my top five favourite “SRKajol” songs - or in other words, songs that star the world renowned onscreen couple of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol; aka the Romeo and Juliet of India. (Okay, yes, please forgive me. I went on an intense chocolate & romance film binge yesterday, and this post is currently my only source of alleviation from my lack of companion at the moment.)
Gerua (Dilwale - 2015) - Easily one of the most viewed videos on YouTube at the moment. Though, it's a bit too overdone, if you ask me. Released only this past December, this video is exceptionally vibrant and simply glamorous to watch - so unbelievably grand to the point that you question if it’s all just VFX. In fact, the answer is no, as the filming locations span anywhere from black-sanded beaches, waterfalls, and even glacial lakes, all located in the stunning backdrop of Iceland. And yes, that is the same abandoned airplane which you see Justin Bieber skateboard on in his most recent music video "I’ll Show You".
Suraj Hua Maddham (K3G - 2001) - Simply elegant, sensual, and so very gorgeous - both the song and its complimentary video. If you are to click on any of the links in this post, at least click on this one. If someone were to randomly ask me what love is, I would just direct them to this music video. It perfectly exemplifies that you do not need to dance suggestively in skimpy clothes in order to be exceptionally attractive, which is something that most popular music videos tend to consist of. (Oh, and please pardon the lack of subtitles in the intro scene of this link. (ノ∀\*)
Baazigar O’ Baazigar (Baazigar - 1993) - Old, but gold. This film marked the debut of this lovely onscreen couple, and Indian cinema hasn’t been the same since. Dressed anywhere from Zorro and his bride, aesthetic sailors, and serenading Spaniards; and playing a trumpet in the ocean, this video has all the quintessential 90s romance tropes you could hope for. I’m in love with how vintage it sounds, and it truly illustrates the most charming, silly, yet eccentric date you could daydream.
Janam Janam (Dilwale - 2015) - While the music video for Gerua is certainly incredible, I’d have to say the song itself doesn’t even compare to that of the hauntingly melodious track Janam Janam from the same film, and it certainly proves that this couple’s chemistry is still just as vibrant as it was nearly 23 years ago.
Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam (DDLJ - 1995) - Last on this list, but certainly not the least. Honestly, I would be committing a gruesome crime if I failed to mention this iconic song (or even Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main ). Thanks to this film, I will forever count the days until I run through a field of yellow hues into the arms of a handsome mandolin player. It’s such a classic, and oddly enough, I’ve become really familiar with its lyrics (I swear, I know more Hindi than I do the Spanish I’ve come to learn in school). Cheesy in its finest possible form, I suppose you could say this is my personal definition of "relationship goals".
