Ahhh, the anticipation is killing me! Okay, normally I wouldn't really write a ton about a film a month and a half before it even releases, but I just have to make an exception this time around. You see, when I had first heard about FAN after having seen the initial teaser trailers and what not, I had only but a casual interest. Upon its release, the upbeat, optimistic song "Jabra Fan Anthem" caught my attention, as its lyrics were undoubtedly relatable to what I, as a fan, feel and experience. While this film did look rather innovative, the story itself came across as being inspiring, heartfelt, and most of all - simple. So, you ask, what has shifted my preconceived impressions towards FAN? It's official trailer released only a few hours ago, and boy, it is the complete opposite of what the innocent promotional teasers showcased – and I am so thrilled about it! I'm striking the signature SRK pose already. FAN is a film that centers around the character of Gaurav (Shahrukh Khan) whose life revolves around his celebrity idol, Aryan Khanna (Shahrukh Khan). However, what appears to be all but an inspirational admiration actually turns out to be a detrimental obsession that crosses the line. |

What are your thoughts & opinions on technology? In my opinion, technology is a useful educational tool, but it may also be the cause of the poor study behaviors that have become even more prominent today. I feel as though the technological tools students are given become more of a personal right of sorts, rather than a privilege. But that’s not to say that every student abuses the resources they have at their fingertips. School, intwined with technology, serves a purpose. That purpose is to help prepare students for their future in the best way possible. Perhaps a potential career won’t handle such high amounts of mathematics as others will, but challenging tasks and the ability to handle them are crucial. One cannot just bypass difficult things because they deal with math or technology because it will just make it more troublesome to find a sufficient job in the long run.
One might say that technology is to blame for the huge increase in population around the world, but what if it’s precisely the opposite? As the number of people continues to increase greatly, more and more jobs are being created - jobs that will soon require the use of technologies that haven’t even been invented yet. I find this remarkable because with these new advancements, a surplus of new information will pave the way for incredible discoveries to help solve problems our world currently suffers from. In that sense, technology can be greatly beneficial - but what I fear most is the misuse of such resources. Through the modern way of communication, the role of social media can often taint relationships and the natural manner of human interaction. This will certainly have an impact on my future and I can only hope that such technology will not “solve" old issues by creating new ones. For this week being a bit clustered and all, it would only be fitting if I at least attempted to compile the recent madness into a coherent blogpost. With that said, I'm proud to say that I have been accepted into my school's new leadership council. Now, I'm not sure what exactly this group will entail in the near future, but I can wholeheartedly say that it will bring about some much needed (and hopefully positive) changes to my school. So far, I and a select group of my classmates have begun to have weekly meetings and training groups to better brainstorm and prioritize issues that should be addressed and given attention to. These topics range anywhere from student attendance regulation, equally balancing acknowledgment to all school activities, flipped learning, and student/teacher interactions. Although making drastic changes from the very beginning is nearly impossible, we have only just begun to take our first steps into a new direction, and I am looking forward to where these new advances will take us.
I'm sorry, but I just cannot resist bringing this up. Although it's not until next weekend, I can't help but write a post on here about a local film festival that's coming into my horizon in the next few days. It's rare to hear of an event such as this being held in my surrounding communities, as the arts don't tend to be emphasized or encouraged as much as other fields of study are. Fortunately, I heard about this festival through an email my school forwarded to me, and thus I registered to attend only moments later. Ahhh, I'm so excited! I've never truly been to an event like it, so I'm sure there'll be many surprises coming my way. Hopefully I can persuade a couple of my friends to join me.
My writing inspiration has really been lacking its luster this past week, so I desperately conjured up, yet again, another list of sorts. This time around, I chose to brainstorm some things that I have never done, and much to my content, writing them down has somewhat helped me come to terms with a few challenges I've been avoiding to face, whereas others that I simply look back on with a bit of regret.
Alas, it is the day after the most romantic day of the year, and I suppose you could say I’m not so keen as to move on from it just yet. Desperate for any writing ideas, I’ve decided to compile a list (in no particular order) of my top five favourite “SRKajol” songs - or in other words, songs that star the world renowned onscreen couple of Shahrukh Khan and Kajol; aka the Romeo and Juliet of India. (Okay, yes, please forgive me. I went on an intense chocolate & romance film binge yesterday, and this post is currently my only source of alleviation from my lack of companion at the moment.) Gerua (Dilwale - 2015) - Easily one of the most viewed videos on YouTube at the moment. Though, it's a bit too overdone, if you ask me. Released only this past December, this video is exceptionally vibrant and simply glamorous to watch - so unbelievably grand to the point that you question if it’s all just VFX. In fact, the answer is no, as the filming locations span anywhere from black-sanded beaches, waterfalls, and even glacial lakes, all located in the stunning backdrop of Iceland. And yes, that is the same abandoned airplane which you see Justin Bieber skateboard on in his most recent music video "I’ll Show You". Suraj Hua Maddham (K3G - 2001) - Simply elegant, sensual, and so very gorgeous - both the song and its complimentary video. If you are to click on any of the links in this post, at least click on this one. If someone were to randomly ask me what love is, I would just direct them to this music video. It perfectly exemplifies that you do not need to dance suggestively in skimpy clothes in order to be exceptionally attractive, which is something that most popular music videos tend to consist of. (Oh, and please pardon the lack of subtitles in the intro scene of this link. (ノ∀\*) Baazigar O’ Baazigar (Baazigar - 1993) - Old, but gold. This film marked the debut of this lovely onscreen couple, and Indian cinema hasn’t been the same since. Dressed anywhere from Zorro and his bride, aesthetic sailors, and serenading Spaniards; and playing a trumpet in the ocean, this video has all the quintessential 90s romance tropes you could hope for. I’m in love with how vintage it sounds, and it truly illustrates the most charming, silly, yet eccentric date you could daydream. Janam Janam (Dilwale - 2015) - While the music video for Gerua is certainly incredible, I’d have to say the song itself doesn’t even compare to that of the hauntingly melodious track Janam Janam from the same film, and it certainly proves that this couple’s chemistry is still just as vibrant as it was nearly 23 years ago. Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam (DDLJ - 1995) - Last on this list, but certainly not the least. Honestly, I would be committing a gruesome crime if I failed to mention this iconic song (or even Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main ). Thanks to this film, I will forever count the days until I run through a field of yellow hues into the arms of a handsome mandolin player. It’s such a classic, and oddly enough, I’ve become really familiar with its lyrics (I swear, I know more Hindi than I do the Spanish I’ve come to learn in school). Cheesy in its finest possible form, I suppose you could say this is my personal definition of "relationship goals".
American dreams. Indian soul.

— Initially, this page was where I documented my daily prompts for a writing class in high school, but I'll continue to post my thoughts here every once in a while. I might also post some dissertations / research I've done here in college. categories:archives:
